The Cleft Registry

The Cleft Registry is a database under construction to follow all Palestinian children in the West Bank and Gaza who have craniofacial anomalies.

The goal of the database is to allow follow-up on all children with clefts, their medical and surgical histories and future need for treatment.

Participants in the creation of the database include personnel from Birzeit University, Al-Najah Medical School and Al-Quds University, as well as the University of North Carolina.

Though the incidence of cleft lip and palate on the West Bank and in Gaza is presumed to be approximately 1/1,000 live births, there is very little data to confirm this total.

The Cleft Registry is an attempt to more fully answer the question about the incidence of cleft lip and palate on the West Bank and in Gaza.
